About Ricardo
Ricardo Guillén, was born in Cusco, Perú and is an ascendant from Native Quechua family from the countryside. Through the teachings he received he was motivated to travel through Peru over a period of 15 years. During this time he visited many native tribes in different regions.
His work started in Iquitos, and later he went to the province of Macas in Ecuador, where he received a profound training from Luis Alberto Catán Shinqui, Uwishint from the Amazonía, part of the Uwishint Cultural Etno Cience, Shuar nation.
During the last year and a half, Ricardo has been working in Asia (Thailand), healing people from many parts of the world, sharing experience, wisdom, tradition and the healing properties of the sacred master plants.
Ricardo is currently travelling and spreading his message of healing through music and sacred plant ceremonies, choosing his current home in Thailand for it’s deep spiritual connection with nature.
Instruments Used In The Shamanic Traditions
The Bell
The Bell is used to open the ceremonies and invoke "the sacred".
The Pututo
The Pututo is also used to open the ceremonies and awake the mountain`s spirit. The natives of 'Nasca' used to play the Pututo when they were visited from other tribes.
The Chacapa
A very powerful instrument, the Chacapa is used by 'healers' in ceremonies and healing rituals. It's used to move energies and is often used in the traditional 'Icaros' of the Amazon,
The Antara
The 'Antara' is made of feathers from diferent birds. Legend tells that in the cosmic visions of the Andes in Peru it is believed the eagle from the north and the condor from the south were going to meet and become close friends. This is when this instrument was born. The 'Antara' is used to connect to 'Hanan-pacha' (the universe and the 'Pachamama').
Pan Flutes
These flutes are made from the 'master plant' the sacred bamboo.
The Emisferio
The Emisferio is another instrument which is often used in the Peruvian tradition and is used to connect the 'hanan-pacha'
The 'Grandfather's' Flute
The 'Grandfather's' flute is used to reconnect with the ancestors and is very often used by shamans of the Peruvian tradition.
The 'Traversa' Flute
The 'Traversa' flute as the rest of the wind instruments is used to connect to the wind element.
The Sicus
This flute symbolises the crash of the winds. It is used in the Andean tradition and known as the 'Sicus'.
Kena Dad
Let's present the family of the 'Kenas'. The Kenas in the Peruvian tradition means the cry of the natives. This flute is 'Kena Dad'.
Kena Mom
This flute is the 'Kena Mom' or 'mama kena' in Spanish.
The Quena
The Quena is the traditional flute of the Andes. Traditionally made of totora, it has 6 finger holes and one thumb hole, and is open on both ends or the bottom is half-closed (choked).
The Quenacho
The Quenacho is a greater, lower-toned version of the Quena and made the same way.
The Quenilla
This flute is the Quenilla is a smaller version of the Quena, again very often used in the Amazonic tradition.
The Shamans Drum
The 'shamanic drum' is used to connect with the heart. You are often taken into trance when playing it.
Maracas
The maracas imitates the sound of water. They produce calm and invoke a clean energy. They can take you to the 'uku-pacha'
The Koshi
The 'koshi' is not of Peruvian origin, but of European origin. There are many different kinds and each one represents one element from the planet (wind, water, fire or earth).
The Charango
The 'Charango' is a mix between a Peruvian instrument called 'Mandolina' and another from Spain called a 'Viruela', this is how the Charango was born! It's sound produces happiness.
Seeds
The 'seeds' imitates the sound of water also and produce a sense of calm while giving you power.
Cherokee Flute
The 'Cherokee flute' is from North America and used in the Shamanic tradition there. Ricardo uses this to add another dynamic to his playing.
